Conclusion

Fourier gratings can be tailored to produce very high diffraction efficiencies for a large variety of diffraction patterns. Due to their smooth structure without sharp edges, they can be machined accurately as reflection gratings both for one-dimensional and for two-dimensional dispersion. With relatively modest machine shop equipment gratings can be manufactured for frequencies well into the Terahertz range.
