In addition to the Herschel OT1 program, selected pillars and globules in Cygnus, Rosette, and M16 have been followed up with velocity-resolved [C II] 158 micron and [O I] 63 micron spectroscopy using the (up)GREAT receiver on SOFIA. These observations provide the kinematics of the photodissociated gas at the pillar/globule surfaces, complementing the Herschel imaging and spectroscopy described on the Herschel OT1 page.
